Sudanese cooking contains a combination of stews and gravies, often eaten by hand such as, fresh, and cooked salads, beans, dips, lime, peanut, rice dishes unique breads, and traditional desserts. Lamb and chicken are Sudanese preferred meats.


Some famous Sudanese cuisines to try includes:


1.Kamounia


Sometimes spelled Kamouneya is a Sudanese stew prepared with beef , liver, sometimes lamb as a primary ingredients , sometimes served with rice, or eaten with bread.


2. Kisra -ma- Molokhia/Bamia


One of Sudanese most popular dishes are Kisra ma Molokhia (or Ma Molah Bumya) Kisra is the Sudanese flatbread that goes well with Molokhia stew, bamia stew and lamb stew with carrots and potatoes.

4.Asida


Asida is a dish originated in Maghreb or the western part of north Africa and the Arab world. The region includes Algeria, Libya, Mauritania (also considered west Africa) Morocco, and Tunisia, it is a lump of dough, obtained by stirring wheat flour into boiling water, sometimes with added butter or honey, similar in texture to fufu. It is also one of the main and most popular Sudanese dishes.


5.Sambusas


Sambusas are a dough pocket, filled with ground meet mixture with vegetables like onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and deep fried.

6. Ful Sudani/ Ful medames


It’s a stew of cooked fava beans served with olive oil, cumin, and optionally with chopped parsley, garlic, onion, lemon juice, chili pepper, mixed with herbs and spice ingredients, it can be eaten with goat cheese and pita bread or boiled eggs. As one of the most popular dishes it is considered a national dish in Sudan and Egypt.

7.Goraasa


Goraasa is a Sudanese flatbread made with flour, water, salt. The batter is shaped in the pan, so the result looks like a thick tortilla. In Sudan, it is eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and one of Sudanese favourite.


8. Zalabia


Its made of yeast, flour, corn starch, water and a pinch of sugar, plus you need oil for frying. This basically vegan donuts, it is a side dishes in Sudan, usually eaten at breakfast.



Sudanese coffee is prepared by the coffee beans are freshly roasted over an open flame. After its properly roasted they are sauteed down along with other spices like cardamon, black pepper and ginger are the spices of choice, after the mixture is ready the coffee is ready to be served from the jebena


10. Araqi or Marissa


Araqi or Marissa is an alcoholic gin made from dates , yeast, which is illegal in Sudan but still continue production despite sharia law ban on alcoholic beverages since 1983.
